Kids to Concerts, MBAW’s vehicle for educational outreach, is an interactive concert series for children grades K-12, intent on integrating Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) compliant curriculum with the inimitable experience of live performing arts. Kids to Concerts reaches 7000 students annually, serving economically disadvantaged and at-risk students throughout San Antonio public schools.
Kids to Concerts performances reach children in the San Antonio community who lack access to quality, multicultural musical programming, bringing international artists of the highest caliber directly into San Antonio schools, at no charge to the schools visited.
In the 2011-2012 season, MBAW will present 10 in-school concerts at: Edgewood Theatre for the Performing Arts serving the Edgewood Independent School District, Southwest High School, Kriewald Road Elementary, Hidden Cove Elementary, Spicewood Elementary, Medio Creek Elementary, Indian Creek Elementary, Sun Valley Elementary, Scobee Middle School, and Elm Creek Elementary.
Kids to Concerts introduces young minds to the beauty and history of classical, jazz and folk music, building bridges between what students learn in school and experience in live performance. In forging new partnerships with schools, together we spark appreciation for music in our children, and create an audience for tomorrow.
MBAW extends a special thank you to Mr. Caleb Gonzales, Southwest ISD faculty member, and owner of BandStar Music, for volunteering his time to help schedule concerts and coordinate with schools, as well as donating and setting up sound equipment, free of charge. His generosity serves many, and we are grateful for all he does.
Thank you also to Kids to Concerts sponsors:
